Building strong communities is essential to economic prosperity. Our name, “Commerce,” often makes people first think of us as championing business and economic development. We do that, but more important is the notion that a healthy, safe community is the foundation for economic prosperity.

Washington Mass Timber Accelerator (MASSTAC) is working to make Washington a leader in low-carbon, high quality construction through increased utilization of locally manufactured mass timber.
With representation from Indigenous communities, government agencies, private industry, labor organizations, and forestry, we are the central hub of mass timber activity in the State of Washington.

Willamette Workforce Partnership is a Workforce Development Board committed to building a thriving workforce in Oregon's Mid-Willamette Valley. WWP is a private, non-profit governed by a board of directors, and supports a cross-sector of employers in creating sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities while supporting job seekers to build skills that help them achieve their employment, education and professional development goals.

Workforce Southwest Washington is a local Workforce Development Board designated by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) legislation as the policy, planning, and oversight body for the public workforce system in Clark, Cowlitz, and Wahkiakum counties.

In 2023 the legislature created a Clean Energy Technology Workforce Advisory Committee, CETWAC, an organization co-chaired by representatives of our business and labor groups to conduct research and advise the legislature on workforce training and educational needs in Washington. CETWAC, (pronounced “set-whack”) is committed to helping incumbent workers who may lose their jobs as part of our state’s climate policies, transition to new career fields, while continuing to focus on the capacity and gaps in our current workforce training and education system as we seek to prepare new workers for careers with family sustaining wages. New timber technology, which addresses climate issues by preventing wildfires while utilizing low value timber to manufacturing less greenhouse gas intensive building materials is a part of that focus.

As the workforce board for the City of Portland and Multnomah and Washington Counties, Worksystems drives regional workforce development in mass timber manufacturing and construction. We partner with businesses to understand their needs and collaborate with workforce system partners to create solutions that boost industry competitiveness and promote individual prosperity.
